What a day

Got home and found my first birthday card in the mailbox. At least somebody remembers my birthday w/out yearly reminders (kidding just kidding). My aunt still keeps asking when I'm taking a vacation. I wrote her a letter this week but maybe she hadn't received it when she wrote the letter. No email for her. My uncle is progressing as well as can be expected.

Had a boring day at work. Apparently starting at the 1st of next month, which in Monday, the airport will be adding a new fee to all the car rental counter receipts to help pay for improvements of the airport. Originally, it is to pay for a new service station only half car rentals will use but there is a line that says the funds from this fee can be redirected as needed. Yeah I know what that means, replacing lost profits when the airport execs aren't making enough money. I know how business works. That will fun to explain to the customers. We recieved a message from corporate after an accident someone refused to pay for because the wrong person was driving the car. Now we have to charge for all spouses to drive, except for club members. Then had a renter who knew we didn't use to charge for that and I explained that just like the airlines the company decided they aren't making enough money so we are nickel and diming the customers. That is my theory anyway and customer agreed. I didn't know how else to explain it.

Let's see. Had a frequent customer call me stating she is in Minnesota and wanted me to send someone to check out her car cause it is breaking down. Yeah, that would about 5-6 hours away ignoring the fact I'm by myself at present moment. Had her call roadside assistance to connect with a closer location. Left a note where our car was. The car rental next door laughed saying he recently had a guy drive 2 hours out of his way to return his car because the wipers didn't work believing he had to exchange cars where he rented from. No, he could have taken it to any location in the company chain to exchange it. As the couple walked away from the counter, the wife slapped him saying "I told you so."

Precious started vomiting again so have been measuring the food more precisely to the line instead of a little over. Went outside with Precious about 25 minutes yesterday. If he hadn't fussed so much over the harness when I was snapping it, we would had more time out. But no, he runs away bucking like a bronco and I took it off.

Read a story about the endangered Black-footed ferret being wiped out by plague carried on fleas that attach themselves to prairie dogs, the ferrets food of choice. Now it is a race against extinction of the species by spraying flea killer around praire dog holes. They are also hunting down ferrets and vaccinating them against the plague that is cured with antibiotics in humans. The poor ferrets. Now the kill all prairie dogs who destroy grasses for cattle laws are being reexamined. They are dropping like flies from the plague. Can't have them go extinct too. Poor prairie dogs.

I imagine Sunday to be boring since all the business people will arrive on Labor Day off their 3 day weekend. Well, better go. Frodo needs to play. Later.

What a night

Had a coworker I normally don't see. She had bad scratches from her new kitten because he missed jumping on the couch and landed on her calf. Apparently, she is getting moved to the other location cause someobdy put in their two week notice. Poor girl, she's going to be bored to tears out there since they have less business than we do.

Had a guy complain about his car and the car jockeys standing by told me to tear up the note I just wrote because certain things they don't just care about, like car part is taped instead of glued, bouncing brakes, or remote doesn't work. I explain I simply write what customer says to make them happy. Car jockeys said I need to tell those kind of people Ugh (with obscene gesture). When they left I told coworker, Now we understand why they are outside and we are in here, We can't tell customers Ugh.

Well Precious is in a better mood and stopped growling at Frodo after I came home. He was growling at him this morning. Now they are playing together again.

Had a wacky lady actually complain about the price on her Prepaid rental and what does she do about it, can I fix it? No, she prepaid through a website and therefore must go to the website to dispute the price. What I was really thinking but not allow to say: If you didn't like the price then you should have picked another website stupid. And don't tell me she didn't know what she was paying when she typed in her credit card number, expiration date, and code on the back. She's just SOL.

Had a lady on the phone whining that I sent her to India when she wanted to make a reservation. I explained we have American reservation centers and some in India. Don't I want her business? She doesn't want to speak to someone in India who doesn't speak English and can't understand a word she is saying. I didn't feel a great desire to explain that other car rentals have reservation centers in India too because Americans demand more pay and benefits so American corperations go where the cheap labor is to save money in this bad economy. How this fixes the bad American economy is beyond my comprehension. But I knew she is not going to understand all that so I didn't bother. I offered to make a reservation for her and she hung on me. Yeah, well, I know one car rental can't make reservations at their counter so customers have to speak to India or go online to make a reservation. Though I think her problem really was the fact she wanted my full attention and I had customers walking up to my counter so I was attempting to get her off the phone. Newsflash from experience working in retail where any second several people want a sales clerk's full attention at the same time: Sales Clerks are not interested in your lively conversation and twenty questions, we just want to know what you want. Hence the common greeting: May I help you?

Anyway, gotta go to bed. I went to bed early last night hoping to fall asleep faster and when I woke up this morning, I still had my watch on. Later.

Vet visit

Took Frodo to the vet. When I grabbed the carrier both cats ran under the bed. Then they ran around the rocking chair and up the refridgerator. I took Frodo before he jumped up to the cupboards. Precious already made it and hissed at me. He didn't struggle too much and got him in the carrier fairly easily. I told the vet nurse he knows what is going to happen. He didn't get much of an inspection (eyes, ears, and teeth) being that he refused to get out of the carrier. He meausred at 13.4 pounds, 15 is top cat weight. I grabbed him up but his toe caught on the wires and he unleased his claw to hang on and jump back in. The vet nurse scuffed him and lifted him out. Scruffing is when you tightly grab the back of an animal's neck, if you didn't know that. Temperature taken with an ear thing and heart beat heard in addition to his panting in fear. Got his shots and he sprinted to the carrier.

He was quiet in car except when I stopped, both ways. Precious ran away from the carrier and hissed at me. He jumped up on the cupboards and hissed at me getting nourishment out of the fridge. Then he started hissing and growling at Frodo and has been doing that all day. I just heard him scream that cat fight scream when Frodo tried to play with him out on the balcony. We had a good snuggle time so I don't know what Precious' problem is. Poor Frodo doesn't know what he did wrong, he keep trying to approach to play. He was carried away, poked and prodded, and now Precious is growling at him. Now Frodo is pawing at at his tail and Precious is growling. I tried to play with the laser light but Frodo refused to chase it into the room Precious was in. It rained today so changed my t-short to a sweatshirt and then it stopped, warmed up and I'm hot hot in my sweatshirt, but I didn't want to change again.

Went to sister's house to do laundry. Niece has gotten new glasses, blue like Aunt Jordan. She has some new Tinkerbell sandals on the wrong feet. I notice she does that a lot, but that's a four-year-old for ya. She loves that Tinkerbell. Well better go to bed now. I'm in my jammies and getting cooled off. Later.

Sunglasses back

Called up the grocery store and couldn't recall what color they were. My glasses are turquoise and black so that didn't help any. They had small magnetic shades found this morning so they had to be mine and picked up my sunglasses. They went bent in the center so had to flatten them to make sure they were mine. They fit perfectly so thanked them and went on my way. Whew.

Precious meows and meows to go outside, but won't let me put on his harness. Tomorrow take Frodo to the vet. I like appointments so there is less waiting since the vet stresses them so much they won't come out of the carrier, especially if there is barking dog in the waiting room being held back from attacking them and they have no escape. But at least it is only once a year. I heard reports on TV of people not taking their pets to the vet to save money. Yes, well, catching rabies or distemper will cost a lot more. The shots don't cost that much anyway, in my view of course. Food and litter cost much more. Nothing else to report. Later.

No Shawn Johnson

No Shawn Johnson at the airport today, Dave Letterman called so she went to New York instead. I just watched her. She said there were 4000 people waiting for her at the Des Moines Airport and now they all are going home. She also said that what they do on the 4 inch balance beam most can't do on the floor. She has a sense of humor.

My kitties enjoyed the Olympics too. Frodo jumped at the TV when I didn't pet him, I think it was uneven bars at the moment. They have been competing in their own Olympics here. The Precious and Frodo 50 meter dash across the apartment and balcony. The Precious Wrestling match with the comb and with Frodo. The Frodo Balance beam across the TV to reach the wall shelves to grab a bug. The Frodo vault off the rocking chair in a magnifant flying leap. The Frodo long jump into the grocery sack pile cause I forgot my canvas bags with Precious following. The Frodo and Precious high jump to the cat tower. An acrobatic Frodo floor exercise with beautiful twisting air somersault, a couple floor somersaults, and alligator death roll chasing his metallic paper lure. Precious got into the game and jumped for the metallic paper. We had the Precious and Frodo high jump at the doorknob cause they refused to let me place on their harnesses and I refused to take them outside. I did manage to get Precious's face in the loop, but he took it right out. Precious also had swim meet in the water bowl and got all wet. Then we had the Precious hide and seek into the cubby hole of the cat tower and window screen climbing during the 50 meter dash around the apartment.

Other than that, when I went shopping I lost my sunglasses. I tossed them in my purse and it was always upright throughout the store, but when I put away my groceries they were gone and not in the parking lot. They are also magnetic sunglasses that fit right on my glasses and come as a set so I can't replace them easily. Well better go. Later.

What a day

I woke up and spent about an hour ordering stuff online for my make-up school. Got a list of things I have to buy and class schedule from the place. They recommended shopping at Nordstroms or Sephora for these things, but we don't have any here so had to order online. Then, Professional make-up artists wear all black (why are uniforms always ugly?) so I have to buy new clothes too. One eyeshadow was $20 and hope it is a huge portion that lasts for years at that price. Other stuff was a bit cheaper.

Went to work for a long and boring day. Had excitement when a coworker clocked in cause we needed cars and there was only one guy here so it was best not to bother him. Guy at the counter next door casually mentioned the impending mayhem when Shawn Johnson returns from China to a cop to discover they will be ready when she lands. Other passengers besides her need to get their to their luggage without reporters getting in the way. I have a feeling she will be receiving an escort through the mob. A guy actually called up yesterday asking me what flight she's on cause the airport line wouldn't tell him. Unless people are renting a car, we don't know what flight celebrities are on. And we are always safe behind our counters and watch reporters as if we are watching TV.

Come home and the cats are ready to play. Frodo has gotten the habit of jumping on the TV from the cat tower and climbing the wall shelves to get a bug flying around. I'm scared he will knock over my ceramic figurines on the floor, but if he does I have glue. Snipped off the last mat off Precious's chest and later found a hard spot on his rear. Another mat to remove tomorrow. Well better go to bed. Later.

Desk rage

I saw an interesting report on desk rage. Videos of a desk bound employee jumping over table to assault an employee or a guy who grabbed a employee's monitor and tried to copy the screen on a xerox machine, pounding on the xerox to make it print.

The things I miss working at a boring airport. The therapist explained this is happening from compounded problems of home and work causing people to eventually just break down and explode into rage. Yeah, I have stress at home and work, but you don't see jumping over the counter and punching customers. But then, I email my manager of possible future complaints, rant to my blogs, email pals, my coworkers, or the counter next door (whoever is available), or just roll my eyes and continue watching my movie so it does get out of my system. Nobody is worth getting fired over.

Better go to bed. Precious went outside 3 days in a row, but not Frodo. Today no walk for either one even with Precious persistant meowing and scratching the door, he kept attacking the harness so it never got around his head. Yesterday we startled my neighbor coming out of her door. Precious made a rush to her apartment and then out the fire door to the stairs. I stopped him both times. He has developed the habit of scratching at the neighbor's door and meowing to be let in. Sorry, he can't enter every door. Today Frodo got chased by Precious while he was licking his paw. Then Frodo chased Precious into a cubby hole in the cat tower. They are so much fun to watch. Working hard at keeping Precious's fur mat-free. When visiting Mom she asked how they form. I explained if I didn't comb my passed shoulder length hair for a week, I would have tangles too. Mats are tangles long haired animals get. Oh, forgot to mention that when talking on the phone with the bossman's brother, a customer came by to return her car and commented how I'm the friendliest person here. I hope he heard that cause I just laid the phone down on the counter to count keys when she came. Nobody ever writes to say an employee did a wonder job, but they sure complain when they feel wronged. Better go. Night.

I know there is a full moon

Having a uneventful week. Wednesday got my oil changed and saw my parents' slashed in half nut trees. In high school, Dad had the brainiac idea to grow his own nuts so he didn't have to buy them at the store. What he didn't know was that nut trees he got took 30 years to grow before producing any nuts. We are half way there to grow nuts and 2 of them had their trunks slashed in half by the storm that came through. Half of one tree is still up and Mom showed me a picture of the part that was hauled away, the another tree completely fell over in several directions knocking out their power line to the house. They had no electricity for a day and a half until the power line was fixed. Dad is in the process of chopping it up and carrying it away.

Come to work to find my manager is out for a while cause she is sick and screwed up my coworker's vacation plans. He wasn't going anywhere so he is taking the next week off instead. Dealt with the stupidest customers on earth all week, like the kind who I repeatedly tell I have no service agents to send to their rescue and they keep asking to send one of my people over to them so they don't have to pay for a tow truck, or like the kind who can't figure out how to lock a door without the remote making me ask what these people did before remotes were invented. Sorry remote batteries die eventually. Then a guy comes in wanting to exchange cars cause he hit a curb and now the car shakes. Asked if he was in an accident and he said no. Got him another car and looked up any notes roadside service made. He told them he was sideswiped and crashed into a curb hard enough to cause the hubcap to be dented and making the car shake. With the conflicting stories before me, I went out to check out the car (my car washers had clocked out). I saw no indication of being sideswiped that I assumed that would consist of a very large scrape and dent, just the hubcap that appeared to be ready to pop out. Wrote a note and put it in the owner's drawer. Found later putting stuff away that the car's repair bill consisted of replacing the hubcap, replacing the tire, realigning the tires, etc. at a cost of $400. Hope he has insurance.

Yesterday and today Precious went for a walk on the leash while Frodo stayed inside. Precious has to rub against my pants after he has rolled in the dirt and grass. When I start brushing off the dirt and hair, he runs up and rubs against pants again. Guess he wants his black hair on my tan pants. We ran into a few dogs and Precious hid behind me. I notice that unlike most dogs, Precious will step over the leash when it gets in between his legs. Dogs just keep walking. Nothing else to report.

Days off

I am having very peaceful days off. Monday, Precious consented to the harness after 10 minutes of attacking it and we had a 7-minute walk. First he was spooked cause a guy on a bike went by and he ran to the door. Next after scratching his body all over the sidewalk, a UPS truck came by and he flew into the door. Then the garbage truck made a lot of noise and upstairs he ran to jump up on the cupboards. I had to stand on a chair to remove his harness. After the garbage truck left, he came down. Poor Precious.

Called Mom telling her I need my oil changed. Dad said he can do it even though his leg and back have been hurting him lately. Mom had to tell me all about their hours long doctor's appointment and numerous tests to see what nerve is being pinched. The thing about talking with old people is that they never stop sharing their medical problems. I guess my uncle in the nursing home is finally on a feeding tube when he started vomiting his pureed food and he had a surgery Mom couldn't remember where.

Babysat today so my sister could do something after work. Fed niece's doll and had a picnic with plastic food. Then we watched Max and Ruby, then Dumbo, and finally Belle's Magical World. Niece still thinks the Pink Elephants in Dumbo is scary and won't watch it. She did turn around when I started laughing and singing along. I like the Pink Elephant scene. Sister came home with new rain boots for niece with cat faces on the toes. Niece said they were awful. I said they were cute with flowers and cats. Then she said they were cute and awful, then said they were beautiful boots wearing them around the living room. She is still learning volcabulary words.

Came home to watch the Olympic coverage. Sand volleyball finished up and went on to swimming, and then gymnastics. I thought it annoying they only showed China and the US routines, especially when in the background you can see other gymnasts bouncing around. I went online to see who else was competing. Yesterday and today I have been busy pulling huge mats out of Precious's fur. He is much more soft and smooth. Frodo has been hogging the tallest tower basket lately, getting Precious upset enough to paw at him. He has to nap on another tower basket or the rocking chair. The weather has been cooling off from the rain and I am wearing sweatpants right now. Well better go to bed. Later.

Olympic Coverage

Turned on the TV today to see Olyympic coverage of swimming, bicycling, and water polo. The women's gymnastics was scheduled tonight so I went online after coming home from work to see the highlights. Forgive me if I don't feel like recording 6 hours of coverage and watch only 15 minutes of it, that is a lot of fast forwarding. It is reported the Americans did lousy and the Chinese kicked our butts. I viewed photos of the ladies in action to read in the captions only critiques on the color of the leotards and whether or not they match the country's flag. Excuse me, but if I wanted a fashion report I'll read a fashion magazine. Then I tried for the video highlights to be asked to choose my TV service provider and agree to declare that I am a paying subscriber to this company. There was no antenna option. With cuts to my paycheck, I can't afford cable or satellite. So I don't get to watch online videos of the lousy performance of the American ladies. I did see highlights of the Men's Gymnastics for free though.

At work the car rental guy next door had the stupidest woman on earth. Her credit card declines. She doesn't understand, there is no limit on this card. Insists he run again. He refuses cause it won't go through no matter how many times he swipes it. She calls the credit card company and gives the phone to her husband. They refuse to speak to the hubby since the cardholder is the wife. They inform her that she didn't pay her last bill (big surprise) and it is a week late. She wants the car rental guy to speak to the credit card people. He refuses cause he has nothing to say to them, he computer says declined. She makes her husband go out to the car to get her other credit card and calls to make sure it is activated. It's not and activation has to take place on the home phone, not cell. Now she is furious she can't get a car. Apparently, the husband doens't have a credit card on him. She takes the rental guy's name down and asked her hubby if he heard everything he said cause she is going to complain about this to his boss tomorrow. I said to him, What are they going to do, fire you because her credit card declined? As my manager once said, That woman is married to somebody and be glad it is not you.

Later. Gotta go to bed now.

Finally did it

I received the monthly newsletter from the apartment manager. Cats are now required to be on a leash. If either one of my cats gets injured when a dog chases them up a tree, they getting my 30 day notice immediately. Precious already was chased up a tree with his leash hanging over my head and he struggled to keep his balance with that cord hanging down on his left side. The dog has since left the apartment and now it is empty. People complain about my cats, but I would like to see some dog owners control their dogs. Many times I heard barking outside and my cats are sleeping on the carpet no where near the windows or balcony. I'm sure if I moved out all the dog owners will jump for joy at their success of forcing the cat lady to leave. Yeah well, I'm too broke to go anywhere.

Nothing else to report other than the car rental next door had a wildcat customer screaming about her debit card declining, there is plenty money in there. Actually, they do a credit check and if you bounce checks or have overdraft protection, you fail the test and don't get a car. She finally went down the other counters, but hardly anybody has cars.

Later.

Hello

Yesterday I received a message on the machine from my brother-in-law after coming in with the cats, I forgot I said I would babysit. Must have gotten distracted before reaching the calendar to write it down when she called last week. So called my brother-in-law apologizing and hopped right over. On the way there was an accident and I stopped right in the center of an intersection and then the light turned red. I tried to move ahead as much as I could so the cross traffic could move on their green light. I had brownie and ice cream in a bowl with a can of pop when I heard the message so took them with me along with the laundry (Yes single people have less nutritional lunches such as brownie and ice cream with a can of soda pop). A neighbor girl was watching my niece until I got there. My sister's cat helped drink up the melted ice cream in the bowl. Let the niece watch movies (I am an evil aunt who lets her niece watch TV instead of forcing her to play with her toys).and later went outside to hit her plastic ball on a tee after we got tired of swinging. I gave my niece an underdog and she freaked it was too fast. She said she can jump out her swing like me, but stopped the swing and ran (not exactly jumping). My niece swung at her teed ball left handed and actually hit the ball. I hit right handed, but switched to left when my arm got tired (yes I can switch hit since high school). Sister went to her doctor's appointment after getting home and I left when she came home. She was displeased at the mess on the living room floor and insisted niece pick up. Niece screamed her head off like any child ordered to do chores.

Went to the grocery store and forgot my wallet at home. Rushed home to confuse the cats that I left again. Came back with the groceries. I played with the camera part of my new cell phone. No flash but the light was provided by the camera focus. Today the cats were more exploratory. Precious has been losing weight so he is more active and his butt fits the cubby hole of the cat tower now. Frodo has lost weighed too, but getting more agressive on eating his share before Precious eats both food dishes. Precious had to inspect every porch and physically held him back from a porch where I know there is a dog. Bad, bad cat. Precious went upstairs as I tried to pick him up. Tried to brush Precious and Frodo felt left out of the attention, but didn't like the comb. Then Frodo started rough housing so had to stop. Nothing else to report. Post later.

Hot hot hot

The Dog Days of Summer are in full swing. Over 100 degrees on my thermometer and the cats come back inside w/out fuss. At least this is not Arizona. Lady with a bird feeder in front of her patio complained my cats hang around her bird feeder (Yes, let's ignore the fact birds fly away when cats approach them) and she has garbage on her porch she doesn't want them near it. I explained I have been spraying them to keep them off, showing my water bottle. Precious was particular naughty meowing at every glass door (I think he is checking for dogs since a ground floor dog moved out) and got a nice shower for it. Once he actually laid down when I started spritzing and I had to get down on my knee to spray at closer range making his fur fly up and spritzing his face to get him off the porch. Then he rolls in in the dirt. Frodo chased Precious a couple times and then they lay on the grass panting. Frodo has been shedding as much as Precious so he gets combed when he naps, he hates the comb and runs away.

At work this past week is like walking into my refrigerator, they are probably set at the same temperature. When I left work last night my glasses fogged up. Cats meow to go out on the balcony since it is cooler at night, but now they come right back in. Nothing else to report. Post later.

Niece visit

My niece from Nebraska came to visit at my sister's house this week. They were afraid of answering the phone yesterday afternoon so they didn't get to swim in my pool. Sister got home about 5:00 when I was leaving. Stopped at Burger King on the way so sister didn't have to feed me. Watched TV and played with the cats. Read a book of sister's for her school library. I got through it in 2 hours. Then it was time for me to go home. Hugged nieces good bye.

Typed up the book report for my sister and emailed it. She has 25 new books for the library that she has to read this summer before the kids do. I said yes to help her out, not for any love of children's literature. She also emailed asking to help her experiement with the school's new web cam. Sorry, I don't have one cause no one else I know does and therefore nobody would be on the other end. Got home to play with the laser light with Frodo and had to take an allergy pill to stop sneezing. It popped out of the foil and landed in Precious's fur. He shook and shook with me digging in the fur to have it drop to the carpet. Naptime came and Precious pawed at Frodo for hogging the cat tower top, but Frodo held his ground so Precious jumped up on the couch and snuggled with me. Post later.

Not much to report

Not much has happen this week.

Saturday night had a guy whose keys dropped into the river on a canoe ride, he is out in the middle of nowhere, and can't get into his car. He is worried if he leaves his car, it will be vandalized. Give him the roadside assistance number. He calls back stating they are not answering the line for half hour and he needs help. He gives me his number to call back if I can get ahold of roadside and send him a locksmith. Wait 8 minutes and call him back. Apologize for the line not answering even mentioning I hung up when I got tired of holding the phone. He did too. Explain all I can do is send a new car via tow truck, take the other car to a car dealership to make a new key which won't be open at 10:30 PM, and charge him for the towing and new key. Wow, he says. Explain charges would go on his bill he pays when he returns to Omaha. I can't exactly send a Des Moines locksmith to the middle of nowhere in the pitch dark, highways only have street lights at intersections. He says he called the renting city and they said new keys would be $250 and asked if that right. Yes, the remotes are expensive. He asks if he can call AAA for help. Sure he can give them a try and see what they can do for him. If nothing, call me right back cause I am leaving in half hour. Now he mad I can't offer assistance for him 24 hours. I apologize that I have nobody to send to his rescue. Now he is mad roadside won't answer their line. I give the consumer affairs to complain and agree a half hour wait to get no answer is ridiculous.

Sunday/Monday we had a storm and flight delays. The last flight is set to arrive at 1 AM. I comment to my outside guy, Betcha glad not to have my job. He chuckled. Then a few minutes after 1, it is announced the flight is cancelled and sent back to Minneapolis. Email morning person that customer will come in the morning. Had a guy that insisted he must have a GPS to drive a car. I wonder what they people who MUST HAVE remotes and GPS did before these things were invented. I remember keys and maps. Email morning person that this guy will be calling for a GPS. The funny part was when I got home and started working on my story, I was up all night and saw the sunrise at 6 and went to bed at 7. I got up about 1 PM. At least the cats had the whole night on the balcony.

Monday Frodo caught a bird and I tried to save it, but when he flew away it landed back on the ground. I think it was an adolescent chickadee or wren. Birds in the trees squawked and the baby squealed back. He wouldn't let me touch him and hopped away. I checked to see if a leg or wing was injured from Frodo's teeth. Then Precious had to pounce the flapping bird. I gave up trying to save the bird. Soon bird was jumping at Frodo, pecking his beak at his face and swiping his claws at his chest. Frod jumped back a little. Frodo eventually got too tired to chase it and laid right next to it panting like crazy. Bird was still. I wish I had my camera. When recovered, Frodo pawed at bird to have it not move. He got interested in other things flying around and time came to go back in.

Today ran into a neighbor walking his friendly dog. Dog ignored the cats and went straight for me. He knows where the attention is. Then suddenly had to spray Precious with the water bottle. Explain picking him up a dozen times doesn't work and some people don't like them on their porch, especially if they have plants or dogs looking out the glass door. Later the stray cat I wondered if still alive came out and stirred the dog on the ground floor. Wandering around Precious sprinted up a tree to chase some birds. It got very windy and soon Frodo wants inside. Precious was more reluctant but when Frodo yowled, he ran up the stairs. Animals. Post later.

Kindness of customer

Had a frequent customer returned a car and handed me a gift card for a local grocery store. It's not my birthday, I said. He smiled and said it was for being so proficient when helping him. Thank you, I said. That was very nice of him.

That made feel better after the schedule was changed yet again to remove all overtime from our paychecks. And I lost another half hour off my schedule, which means a total hour since last May has been removed. I hope all my flights are delayed now so I can keep my head above water. Plus I heard the owner has yet to accept an offer from corporate for the franchise, he wants more money.

Let's see I had 4 customers complain how filthy our cars were with stains, smelled like cigarettes, scratches on the car, and one actually demanded a brand new car. They are all going to stink of cigarettes cause I'm out of nonsmoking cars and all will have stains/scratches/ something wrong with them. We don't have brand new cars. The one who wanted the brand new car demanded a discount for the filth. No, I can switch cars and she is welcome to look at the other selections before I exchange them. She came back irate how the other cars were no better and demanded I cancel her rental, then the paperwork stating it was cancelled, and got a car next door. And somehow, I don't miss her.

Oh, forgot some good news for the car rental next door. Their city manager announced that customers are not permitted to swear at them and they can refuse service to them and the city manager will back them up. Before if a customer swore up a storm they had sit back and take it cause if the customer complained to managerment, they got reprimanded for making a customer angry by simply doing their job. And they wondered why they had trouble keeping new people they hired. Not everyone can handle irate customers.

Post later. Bye!

Today's events

Took kitties out for a walk as usual. Found a free newspaper on the floor of my hallway so tossed that in the apartment. Wandering to the shaded part of the playground where the cats love to play in the weed patch nearby, I found some black raspberries and one red on the gravel. I know you are suppose to clean fruit off first before eating, but I ate one anyway and made my fingers purple pulling it apart in the attempt to avoid the seeds. It was good. Then I went back to trying to skip rocks on the gravel. Cats came inside without fuss, it was cooler in the apartment.

Then I think I need Shopaholics Anonymous cause I innocently went into Target with coupons in my hand and had to stop at the clearance section. It was too much to resist even if I told myself no new clothes this year to save money. I drop half my coupons on the floor when picking up hangers and putting the clothes next to me. I was happy to see longer shirts cause it is hard to tuck in when the shirt keeps popping up every time you move your arm. Luckily the shoes I liked I couldn't find in my size. Why can't they organize shoes by size in clearance? It is very annoying to spent 5 minutes looking for a shoe in your size. I did get some colorful socks in a 6-pack in 6 different colors. I have too many white socks and pink shirts. Next I promised myself no more perfume cause I need to save money, but I like smelling nice. Then there are no testers to smell, though a few have scratch and sniff stickers. The one tester I found was strapped down so nobody steals it, I managed to spray my pinkie. Another perfume I pushed down on a bottle strapped inside the box and smelled the box, but didn't like it. I liked the sprayed on my pinkie smell best so grabbed that on sale. It came with lotion so I can smell nice when the tiny 3 ounce bottle runs out. I also found out that my cat food, snacks, and canned food is cheaper than the grocery store, but it is too dangerous coming here very often. Then I had to run in my clogs across the store because my coupon said 2 and I grabbed 1. Oops. I'm sure people thought I was running weird cause it is very hard to run gracefully in clogs w/out them flying off your feet and hitting somebody.

Got home and the electricity is out, even the traffic light was out. Wonderful, I might have to go back out to a fast food place since I can't cook anything. Read the free paper and read a Dear Abby where a woman cried on how she saw a dog in a hot car and when she pointed it out to the car owner, the owner said, Mind your own business! Apparently this lady has limited access to people since that deeply shocked her and then came up with leaving notes on windshields instead. Oh yeah, that will teach them to leave their pets at home. Dear Abby shared more articles on pets in cars. One said to contact the police since they can they can legally break a window to rescue the pet if need be and write citations. While trying on my new clothes and socks the electricity came back on. Whew. Now Frodo and Precious are bouncing off the furniture chasing each other. Frodo jumped on top of the rocking chair and leaped to the floor like acrobat. Precious jumped on the cat tower and and they are pawing each other. I wish my camera didn't take so long to charge up. This is long enough. Post later.

Weekend report

Had a lady yesterday return claiming she can not find her car, she pushed the remote button but none of the cars in the row are responding to it. Go outside with her and find her car exactly where it should be. Hit the unlock button to see the lights go off so I know the remote works. Since she has 3 bags, I hit the trunk release on the remote and lift up the trunk lid for her, to be nice. Oh, she says, she was expecting the trunk lid to automatically go up. So that is why she couldn't find her car, she didn't know she was suppose to lift the trunk lid up with her own hand.

Last night, I was trying to pick up Precious from a lawn chair on my balcony so I can shut the door and go to bed. That weasel curled up on his tummy flipped over onto his back to start meowing and scratching at me trying to get my hands under him. So I picked up the lawn chair and carry it inside with Precious's confused "What is happening" look on his face. Then shut then door.

Today one of the guys came in and said a returned car was wrecked. We are positive it didn't go out that way. My coworker who returned it was certain the guy didn't mention it to him. So we get to write up a damage tag and copy the rental contract for the owner to deal with.

Even better is a coworker who received a text message from his wife saying she spent $108 at the beauty parlor getting her hair done, cause she has to look beautiful. He wondered where she went cause they don't live on Rodeo Drive.

Had a disaster relief lady call complaining she can't open the car door, but pulled out the key in the remote and got in. Now the car won't start cause it's dead. I recommend roadside cause they offer more services than we do and give the number. Then she wants to know how does she pay for the service roadside does for her. I explained roadside put charges on her bill that she pays when she returns. Now she gets mad that she shouldn't have to pay for anything cause the car won't start and she works for the government. Then why is she asking how does she pay if she shouldn't be charged? I look her up and she did select the car insurance covering the car and explained she is covered for damage to the car. That satisfied her enough to call roadside and she is unnerved that I'm not helping her in her hour of need. I explain again that roadside offers more services than we do. I think all the guys clocked out so there is no one here to go jump start her car, wherever she is.

Had a guy come up and I give my standard "May I help you?" riff. He answers back, Got this week's lottery numbers? I reply joking back, You think I would be here if I knew lottery numbers. He says, You asked if you could help me. Sorry, I say. Then he says tonight could be worse. I reply, Of couse it can. He tells me that he was just joking with me and I need to lighten up. Okay, whatever. Next he wants any car with satellite radio. Don't have satellite radio in our cars anymore. Since when? Since a long time ago, the owner had a dispute with the satellite company so we no longer provide that service. Driver's license please. He says he had a dispute with the owner and don't carry that anymore. Just joking. Okay. Check name on license and give it back. Oh you're serious about the satellite radio, I thought you were joking. No, I'm not joking about the satellite radio. Give him the selection of cars and send him on his way.

Come home and the kitties need attention. Post later.

Excitement at the airport

We had a bit of excitement today: the revolving door caught fire. First there was a short beep of the fire alarm that quickly stopped. Thought maybe another kid pulled the alarm. Then I saw a red flash through the glass doors and ran to look outside to see nothing unusual. Thought maybe it was the security car making someone move their car. Next I smelled burnt rubber and wondered where it was coming from. Several minutes later, there are about five firefighters in their fire gear all staring at the revolving door. Lady said some wires in the center of the door caught fire and sizzled smoke causing the door to shut down. That would explain the smell.

I thought I was losing my mind when I kept hearing a dog barking, but couldn't see a dog anywhere. Asked the counter next door and she heard it too, but couldn't see the dog or carrier anywhere either. I think it was some bored counter guys cause I heard some bad imitations of a dog too.

Then we had a storm come in and no flights landing for half hour. And finally some guy try to tell me he is a special club member and gets a car no matter what. He used a weird word to describe special so I know he is not a member if he doesn't know the lingo. We do have an elite member that gets reservation in when calling 24 hours in advance. Less than 24 hours means nothing to me when I have no cars. And I refuse to tell my last reservation customer that he can't have his car he reserved months ago because a club member demanded it. He had a reservation with the counter next door but didn't like the price. I left my coworker one car that needs an oil change.

Later.

New scam

I heard on the news of a new scam proving thieves never take vacations.

Person calls up claiming to be your utility company. Person informs you that your last payment wasn't received so your electricity will be cut off tomorrow unless you pay now. The victims give out their credit card numbers and the thieves charge it. How they figured out they were scammed wasn't part of the story.

Apparently these people don't have internet access to check if their last payment was not received or check if their mailed check was cashed.

Post later. Bye!
