Winning the lottery

Why does getting a pair of earphones that last longer than a month feel like winning the lottery? I had to discard a good set of earphones I had about a year because the pads wore off and one can not just buy the pads. That would make things too easy. So I get a new set and already they are starting to make a shrill sound in one ear. I twist the plug and turn down the music since the shrill pounds with the bass to alleviate my poor ear from the shrill. I think I need to buy a new pair. I got them only a short while ago, maybe a month?? Why can't these things last? Post later. Bye!
