It is that time of year again for detasseling corn. Generally, corn is
knee high by the 4th of July and now is taller than people. Usually,
teenagers take jobs pulling the top of a corn stalk called a tassel off
so the corn tassels in the next rows will pollinate it. I never did it.
It is not fun even if it pays well. One walks in long sleeve shirts and
pants in the summer heat and wander in corn rows one can easily get lost
in. I hear coworkers talk how their kids or grandkids are detasseling.
In high school, people I knew got bad sunburns from not wearing a hat or
sunscreen. Post later. Bye!
A small town girl living in the city full of crazy people. But then, who is normal anyway. I love books, skateboarding, ballet, loud music, hanging out with my nieces and nephew, shopping, and cats Bilbo and Misty.
