Psychiatrist shortage

I read in today's paper of a man who was a scientist for the US
Department of Agriculture gaining symptons of psychosis 11 years ago,
took various medications since, and 2 days before his appointment for
his psychiatrist 50 minutes away he cut his neck with a saw. His wife
went to the pschiatrist's office on the scheduled day and cried on the
floor traumatized from finding him in their basement. Now she plans to
sell the house 9 months after her husband's death. Her picture was on
the porch with beautiful flowers. She has my sympathy.

Apparently Iowa has a pschiatrist shortage where 69 of Iowa's 99
countries have no psychiatrists at all. My county has the most of 29
psychiatrists. A psychiatrist would have few problems setting up shop
here. In Cherokee, there is a first-in-the-nation program started in
1999 to train postgraduate physican assistants in psychiatry. Because of
lack of federal money, but some from the state, the Cherokee Mental
Health Institute is taking applications for their 2 open slots. These
people hope to raise money for 5 slots. Back to work for me. Post later.
