Big day

Today was a big day. Not because I started my volunteer work, because I had several things going on. Yesterday I got a box of baking soda to attempt to rid the rotten smell still lingering in the microwave because it is too damn cold to open the windows all day to air my apartment. It just won't stop raining keeping the temperatures in the 50's. Then coming back I saw a notice above the mailboxes saying the water will be shut off 9-5 the next day (today). So took my shower late at night instead of the daytime. I tried so hard today to get my bangs to go backwards. I lost. My hair refused to obey. I got ready for my volunteer job and scooted right over. Of course all the doors to the museum are locked so I had to ask how I was suppose to get in. I was guided over a rope and opened the unlocked door.
Then there was school going through the house when I entered so I introduced myself to the lady when she came around. I remembered after a minute which door was to the basement and put my stuff away. I watched the second and last group of 10-year-olds. I did get to answer one question on an object, mosquito netting. Not a common sight here. We do have mosquitos carrying West Nile Virus, but we have screens on our windows and doors to keep them out. There are also pesticides sprayed in standing water to kill the eggs. During picnics outside we have bug spray and mosquito coils the burn an unattractive scent to repel bugs.
Once the school group was out we shook sheets used to keep carpet clean from many muddy feet stepping on them. She showed me around and explained where things go. She gave a lesson on the wood burning stove. Then we went into the basement and filled spice jars. Then I ironed (electric iron) aprons and a tablecloth while she changed into her street clothes. This place has shower in bathroom. The last thing we did was sweep the floors and I was told I could go early. I was introduced to the horses in the barn. I started out to discover again the doors are locked. After pulling every one, I finally climbed over a fence in a ankle-length dress to get out. And I left a half-hour early.
I made it home and changed clothes. Been watching TV and eating ever since. People ask what do I do besides watch TV. Not much. Post later. Bye!
