Romeo came 4 minutes to 1. We were having our walk outside. My cat Frodo disappeared and after 40 minutes (a record) of hunting and calling, I decided to teach him a lesson about not coming when I call him and just leave. While looking for him, other cat Precious meowed from the window so that confused Romeo when listening to Frodo meows. He made a neighbor's dog bark. On the way out, there was Frodo. Naturally he ran away from the stranger and Romeo hid under the steps while I grabbed him outside. I gave the treats, petted Frodo, and ran out the door. I forgot the map so had to go back.
I drove us to the place and Romeo was grateful I was driving cause he would have gotten lost. He asked how long it took me to get use to the city streets. Actually I was already familiar with the main streets and where things were because living in a tiny town, we visited often to shop, see movies, etc. My homeotwn has nothing. The smaller streets of residential areas where a friend lives required a map made for me.
He kept score of swings until he asked if that 2 or 3. I said I was not keeping score because I'm here to have fun. He said it is more fun to keep score when competing against your friends. That must a guy thing, everything is a contest. One hole I got frustrated and dropped the ball in the hole with my hand, and another time rolling it to the hole with my putter. I almost got a hole in one but it bounced out of the hole when it hit the pole. Once it went into the water and I fished it out with the net next to the pond. Romeo hit it in the water twice. For someone who rarely does this I was quite good. I did my best figuring out an angle like pool while waiting for the people ahead to finish. Of course hitting the spot I was aiming for was another challenge.
When completed all 18 holes, we stopped for refreshment. They were playing a radio and Foxy Lady started playing. I started singing the "foxy" part and Romeo asked What? I asked if he seen Wayne's World. No. I said this song is in the movie. I said we can watch the movie at my place. He asked about swimming and I said he can swim while I'll sunbathe. He agreed it was a little cool for swimming. 90 is good for swimming. He actually asked me where other good places to swim were since my pool is closed and the nearby lake is flooded. I asked back, Why would I go to a public pool when there is a pool right outside my door? Oh, yeah, he recalled there is a pool across the street. My pool is about to open. Water, patio furniture, umbrellas in tables, and new flower pots. But what day that will be is anyone's guess. I offered ice cream at my place and he said no. He picked Last of the Mohicans to watch. He said he never seen it, just clips. Frodo was leery but eventually came up to sniff him. He ran away when Romeo petted him. Precious enjoyed the attention.
His step-sister's cat had 4 kittens and she said he could have one. They are 3 weeks old and just opened their eyes. He picked the buff colored one, a good color for a cat. He has no name for it, just wait to examine his personality before naming him. Half way through the movie when the love scene at the fort came, Romeo asked me if this was the Revolutionary War. No, French and Indian War. That is before the Revolutionary War? Yes. Obviously he missed the openinng credits where it said 1757, 3rd year of the war between French and British over control of the American Colonies. I looked up when the war ended in my dictionary. I explained this war has 6 years more years to go, French were winning at the beginning (hence the fall of the British fort to the French) and later the British started winning, thus kicking the the French out of Canada. He talked throughout the whole movie.
After the movie, we went over to Pizza Hut. He followed me this time. There was a birthday party going on with a worker dressed as a clown. Very noisy. Romeo declared at the dinner table that he just realized he had not eaten all day and about to pass out. I offered ice cream. He said the pop from the minature golf filled him up so he wasn't hungry then. I think I picked up a weirdo. Romeo asked if remember parties like this. No. My only birthday party as a kid was my 7th and it was a pool party in my backyard. I didn't go into the fact I never wanted another party if I was not allowed to invite all my friends who were crushed from not being invited, only girls in my class could come (no boys and not the girls older than me). Many times I could not hear him talking in this noisy atmosphere. All day he talked about the shocking tornado that ripped through Muscatine. The tornado ended 2 houses away from his mother's house, though the trees and rose bushes were knocked over and uprooted in her yard. His mother's birthday present was a chain saw. At least the cat has a jungle gym in the back yard with all the knocked over trees.
Romeo paid for golf and dinner. I left the tip. He actually opend the door for me when we left. We said our good-bye outside and parted ways. He thinks he will be off the 4th of July and possibly be able to attend my hometown's celebration. I drew a map for him guiding him around the streets that are usually blocked for the parade. I told him to bring a lawn chair, unless he loves grass. Well, post later. Bye!
