Countdown to 30

In 7 days it will be my 30th birthday. Compared to my nieces I'm old and boring. Compared to my mother I'm young and agile. I bought myself a ruby ring online for my birthday. It will probably the only present I get. In my family, once you hit a certain age family members quit buying presents, though some will send money. Then your birthday becomes another day of the week when I feel fortunate if my family remembers it, without me telling them it's coming several times. At least, I still get pretty cards.
