Cute neighbor

I was rushing to work and came down the stairs to meet a new neighbor also exiting the building. He stood aside and let me pass. Such a gentleman. I saw him get into a very nice I'd been admiring for the past week. I had a happy St. Patrick's Day.

Today I watched a news station broadcst students volunteering during their Spring Break to clear debris from a town that had been wiped out by Hurricane Katrina. It made me wonder if anyone is ready for this year's hurricane season. I also saw a fundraiser for Katrina victims being pushed out of hotel rooms and facing mortage payments on homes that had been destroyed.

I find it all strange. When the Floods of 1993 hit Iowa, the state's disaster fund (or wherever the money came from) bought homes in the worst hit areas so people could relocate elsewhere. The homes were inspected for anything salvagable, like light fixtures or windows, that could be sold before the house was bulldozed. The land was made into parks or wildlife refuges since nobody dared rebuild houses there. People lined up to have their house bought by the state, but eventually the fund ran out of money and wasn't offered to everyone with damaged homes.

Why don't these charities for Katrina victims buy damaged homes or leftover foundations so these victims can move on with their lives? Does that make sense? Post later. Bye!
