Good deed of the day

Took cats out and it starts to rain to make them jump out of the "bush" behind the dumpster and hide under the tree I'm under near the front door. Then it passed and the cats wander around building. Maintence guys coming through startled them and Frodo ran into the bushes near our back door. Then I hear a squeal coming Frodo's mouth. I thought it was a mouse cause it was grayish and furry. Then it flapped its wings and huddled in a defensive statue postion. I steal Frodo's toy to his dismay climbing my jeans to get it back. It is a baby bird (gray on top, white underneath) with fluff all over and some feathers on the wings. It's wing and hind are bleeding, but the size of cat's claw so not serious. I hold it in my hands to the cats' meows. I try to get up up into the tree, but it is way up there and I don't have a ladder. Try to get it on a branch hanging down, there are birds making a lot of noise above us. It won't leave my hand. I move it up and down to encourage flight, but it flaps its wings and falls to the ground. Rescue it from Frodo again. Maintenence guys walk by and I show off the poor baby bird. An apathetic "oh" was their response. I take it they are not going to get a ladder for me. Time outside ends and this bird keeps closing its eyes to take naps. I am very careful not to pet it cause the parents will reject it if they don't recognize the smell. Let's just say the other day I found a dead baby bird on the sidewalk so I'm not leaving it outside to die if I can help it. Can't keep it, cats will kill it and be disappointed when it quits moving.

Call different animal control numbers. Got answering machines, we don't handle injured or orphan animals, number no longer in use, and finally a person to answer my question "It won't get off my hand, it's wounded and can't fly, what do I do?" Lady explains to leave the bird where the cat can't get at it and the parents squawking in the tree will take care of it. She asked about the wounds being terrible or could heal, and can it flap it wings. The wounds are punctures the size of a cat's claw and it just fluttered its wings. She said to call tomorrow if the baby bird is still there. Bird fell off my hand in the hallway and its claws caught on the carpet. Placed the bird on top of a tall bush and it crawled into it to hide. It should be alright.

Now I'm just relaxing in wet socks watching the news. Mom just called asking if I got my cat back in yesterday. Eventually, yes. Told her about the baby bird. Post later. Bye!
