Saturdays

Sometimes I hate working Saturdays. My coworker is not much an enforcer when it comes to convincing the car washers to do things they do not want to do. She often entrusts requests and information to a man who can not hold a thought. Anything she asks this man to do is never done, which perhaps explains why he only works 2 days out of the week. I learned to ask more responsible people if I want something done. At worst, I only once threatened to call the bossman sitting at home if I ran out of cars to rent out. After that, I got enough cars.
I have been told he has a nasty temper when he is angry. I prefer not to see that side of his personality. I did hear him once yelling in the backroom with the door closed. I stuck my nose in a book and asked no questions. Once on a a Saturday did I call the bossman's brother to bring a car I did not have for a reservation that just popped up on screen, then another one that cancelled before he got there. I wonder if the car washers understand that people call for reservations after they clock out and I am required to give them a car. Then again, I do not work with highly intelligent people.
Today a reservation popped up for a car I did not have and sent over my dingbat coworker to go get it for me. He can not be left alone for long periods of time. While he was doing that, the reservation shows up, 2 hours early and 10 minutes after I noticed the new reservation. I start the rental and he comes back just in time. I thanked him and emailed my manager saying at least I did not have to call my boss or his brother to get the car, they live 20 minutes away. When I am alone, I am not permitted to leave the counter except in extreme emergencies. That is usually helping a customer find something that does not take more than a minute, move a car to another lot which takes two minutes, or the rest room of course. Other car rental workers watch my counter and tell customers that I will be right back.
After I finished ranting in yesterday's post, a lady, then gentleman, came begging for a car seat for a kid because the airline lost their's. I explained the airline is suppose to give them another one when they lose it. In other words, not my problem. The gentleman pleaded for my kindness in getting his way. I said, No we only give out car seats with a car rental (with us). Sorry to be so cold, but I need better reassurance than they are desperate that they would return the car seat here. I only break rules when higher authority tells me to, and who were all asleep at midnight when this happened.
Well, I sit alone with my lotioned tissues. I am antisocial today from my sore throat and plugged up ears that keep popping. I am ready to go home. I have been spacing off this afternoon and looking at Christmas catalogs. I will try not to bore my audience with too many work rantings. My brother calls them horror stories and asked to stop sharing them with him. My Mom is always astounded how rude and demanding people can be. She associates with church ladies and old people clubs so she does not work with the public at large. Though I hate it when she repeats my work stories during family dinners and how she can't believe how unreal people are. Other females in the family have jobs so they believe every word.
My Mom has not held a job since 1964 when my oldest sister was born, as a secretary, and yet she feels experienced to tell me how to do my jobs and catch shoplifters (when I worked in retail). She actually suggested placing cameras in our cars to take pictures of customers breaking rules. I don't think the owner is willing to pay for over 300 cameras just to catch someone smoking in a nonsmoking car. The cost outweighs the benefit. Besides, evidence is left behind of wrongdoing and criminals who rent our cars eventually do get caught, like the weirdo who used our van to rob a bank (they were caught with another company's car robbing a store and the cops found our receipt somewhere).
I think I will stop here and eat a snack. Post later. Bye-Bye.
